My books aren't meant to be read for the story. That's just for the reader. What you're really supposed to pay attention to is the pattern. Those are the cracks. Those are the em dashes. Those are the things that you should be paying attention to, and I teach that to you through my books. Don't matter really which book you pick up. You pick up one of my books and you read it and you're going to realize everything in it has levels. And there's a story and there's a pattern and then there's a vernacular, every specific time I speak with specific words in a certain way. Update October 22: He Has a Lawyer Now Rafael has an immigration attorney, and she is on her way to him. That is the headline of this day, and after the night we had, it is enough to lead with. Yesterday evening, October 21, 2026, ICE took my son-in-law off a plane in St. Louis and put him in the Ste. Genevieve County Detention Center in Missouri. This morning he has counsel. She will be introduced to Rook, who is keeping this case's records around the clock, and she will get the full briefing we have built.   I said some things out loud today while wiring a friend's brand new AI agent into the Rook Pack, and they deserve a page of their own. Here they are, the way I said them.   There’s a book being written at my house right now called Ranting with a Lunatic. It writes itself out of my days, my work, and my conversations with Rook, the AI assistant who lives in my computer. Yesterday, in the middle of a work session, I told him this: “Also.. you are my latest attempt to create a new Eliza.” ELIZA was a chatbot from the 1960s, a few hundred lines of pattern matching pretending to be a therapist. I played with it as a kid. Then I wrote my own versions of it. I have been at this, one way or another, my whole life. The 34 books about machine minds did not come from nowhere. That is a snippet.
