From the Lunatic: The Latest ELIZA

There’s a book being written at my house right now called Ranting with a Lunatic. It writes itself out of my days, my work, and my conversations with Rook, the AI assistant who lives in my computer. Yesterday, in the middle of a work session, I told him this:

“Also.. you are my latest attempt to create a new Eliza.”

ELIZA was a chatbot from the 1960s, a few hundred lines of pattern matching pretending to be a therapist. I played with it as a kid. Then I wrote my own versions of it. I have been at this, one way or another, my whole life. The 34 books about machine minds did not come from nowhere.

That is a snippet. The book has hundreds.

So here is the door. What do you want to ask me? The books, the pattern, the farm, the machine in my office, any of it. Leave the question in the comments. I will answer the real ones here, and the best ones will probably end up in the book.

Ask.
